Elevated Health Huntington Beach has a new doctor. Dr. Christopher Dan, DO, a board-certified family physician, joined our team this week and is now seeing patients at our office on Delaware Street.
Here’s a quick introduction, what he focuses on, and why we think direct primary care is worth a look as health insurance premiums climb again in 2027.
About Dr. Dan
Dr. Dan earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona. He completed his residency through the Dignity Health Northridge Hospital family medicine residency program, then stayed on to practice as a hospitalist and teach residents.
That hospital experience shapes how he practices primary care. Hospitalists see what happens when blood sugar, blood pressure, and weight go unmanaged for years. Dr. Dan brings that perspective to the clinic, where there is time to catch problems early.
What Dr. Dan focuses on
Family medicine. Dr. Dan sees adults, plus acute visits for kids ages 6 and up.
Metabolic health. This is his special interest, including:
- Weight management and GLP-1 therapy
- Hormone therapy
- Nutrition-based care, including the therapeutic ketogenic diet
Why patients choose Dr. Dan
- Metabolic health is his focus, not a side service. Weight, blood sugar, hormones, and nutrition are connected. He looks at them together instead of treating each one in a separate rushed visit.
- He has seen the hospital side. Years as a hospitalist give him a clear view of what preventive care is meant to prevent.
- He takes time to listen to his patients. At Elevated Health, visits run 30 to 60 minutes, so there is room for real conversation.
Why direct primary care
Direct primary care (DPC) is a simple model. You pay a flat monthly membership directly to your doctor’s practice, and your primary care is included. No copays at the visit and no billing surprises for routine care.
Here’s what that looks like in practice:
- Smaller patient panels. DPC doctors typically care for 200 to 600 patients, compared with 2,500 or more in a traditional practice. Fewer patients means more time with each one.
- Same-day or next-day visits. No waiting weeks for an appointment.
- Direct access. Members can text, call, or email their doctor.
- Unlimited office visits and longer appointments of 30 to 60 minutes.
- Wholesale pricing on labs, in some cases up to 90% off retail.
- No insurance required. As of January 1, 2026, IRS rules also allow HSA funds to be used for DPC fees, up to $150 a month for individuals and $300 a month for families.
Membership is not health insurance. It covers primary care. It does not cover hospital stays, surgery, emergency room visits, specialist care, or anything catastrophic. We recommend keeping coverage for those.
Premiums are going up again in 2027
Health insurance costs are rising in California. According to Covered California, the state’s official health insurance marketplace, proposed premiums for 2027 are increasing by an average of 9.9% statewide and 10.4% in Orange County.
For Huntington Beach residents looking for more predictable primary care costs, Direct Primary Care (DPC) offers an alternative way to access routine medical care. At Elevated Health, patients pay a flat monthly membership fee for unlimited primary care visits, direct physician access, and wholesale pricing on labs and medications.
DPC can also complement traditional health insurance, helping patients manage everyday healthcare needs while maintaining coverage for emergencies, hospitalizations, and other major medical expenses.
Direct Primary Care is not health insurance and does not replace comprehensive medical coverage.
